Hi guys,

I’m looking to replace my bath taps with a thermostatic deck mounted shower mixer. My DHW is stored at 48 degrees I’m worried it may not be hot enough for a thermostatic mixer? Can anyone advise?

also this is the way they’re currently piped up. Is there a better way to do this ?
it’s multilayer pipe and special adapting insert nut connected to a normal brass fitting.
can I reuse this fitting and use ptfe where the hemp and paste is?

thanks

48's fine for the mixer.

The nuts, olives and inserts will separate from the unions, and then you fit the unions to the new unit, and then simply screw the nuts and pipe back on.

How tight should these fittings be? Hand tight and one full turn be enough?

thanks

You get a feel for it.

Brass on brass should be assembled with pipe jointing compound, or PTFE (liquid or regular tape).

An indicator of it not being tight enough is by it leaking obvs…. Then just a 1/4 turn tweak at a time until it’s not.
