saveasteading Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Thanks. Very traumatic and expensive. What was the obvious sign that there was a problem with the slab?

We filmed the whole process and saw a lot of incidences of poor workmanship which made us think there were voids in the concrete. We had non destructive testing carried out over the whole slab which indicated a lot of problem areas. Those areas were core drilled which confirmed there were voids. The company accepted the results and the whole lot was replaced at no cost to us. 3
saveasteading Posted September 20 Posted September 20 The lesson learnt by the company was, I assume, to always get the concrete in quickly, ie pump. Also the recipe for a pump mix is different, so flows better even if barrowed. 1

What sort of poor workmanship ? (I guess a lot of people like me would just assume a concrete pour is hard to get wrong.) Any idea of the cost of concrete cutting ? Did they use a specialist contractor or just hire in the cutting machines ?

I didn't get involved in the details of the slab removal, other than to get an assurance that there would be a different team who were competent. 1
