Hi, we are new here and in the very very early stages of our self build. We have just been to the build show in Exeter. We have seen a new system of ICF raft foundations which can have a concrete fibre mix pour, meaning there is no need for steel mesh.
this sounds great however we have been quoted an astronomical amount for the engineer. Have other people come across this?
Thanks

There are many engineers who can design an insulated raft. They are not suitable for all buildings and ground types.  Why do you want one?  It may be better to decide what performance you are after (loadings, u values, thermal bridging, buildability) and get the most economical solution designed.

Hi. How much is astronomical? People have very different ideas of costs etc in my experience.

This is a standard product and option, but more often for a screed than a structural slab.

By default anyone offering a product at a show is not going to suggest other options.

Tell us more about your intended project and get more detailed advice.
