Great_scot_selfbuild Posted August 7, 2025 Posted August 7, 2025 Looking for inspiration ideas for what colour to go for on the inside of our front door. It’s an aluminium door (Internorm AT540) and we’d prefer not to go for white or black (outside frame will be black though. Photo attached of the approximate door design. There will be a large window about 500mm above the door, with a light wood surround. The walls may be white, but not decided. Keen to see examples of any inside door colour choices people have made, especially if they’re on an aluminium door. Thanks for reading 😁
SteamyTea Posted August 7, 2025 Posted August 7, 2025 You don't really have a choice, colour is predetermined. https://aic-color.org/page-18104 Other organisations of colour are available.

Sorry, I'm not following what you mean - @SteamyTea can you explain please?
JohnMo Posted August 7, 2025 Posted August 7, 2025 Do it same colour as the inside of the windows or the the same as the outside of the door/windows if different. Committee decisions on your house colours are normally cr@p.
Great_scot_selfbuild Posted August 7, 2025 Author Posted August 7, 2025 Just interested to see examples of where people have used a colour on the inside of the door, that's all... (this aspect of the doors doesn't really feature on the websites or brochures.
Kelvin Posted August 7, 2025 Posted August 7, 2025 (edited) Ours is light grey. Probably no help. 😂 Ignore the bit painting I’m doing Edited August 7, 2025 by Kelvin 1
SteamyTea Posted August 7, 2025 Posted August 7, 2025 1 hour ago, Great_scot_selfbuild said: can you explain please We all like to think that we are unique individuals, just like everyone else. In the UK, we used to have the Colour Council, this was an organisation that set what colours would be available to the general public. They did this by convincing/coercing companies to sell goods in a limited range of colours. That morphed into the World Colour Council, but has split up into more regional areas now. This is why you often get the same colour, from different manufacturers, under different colour names. What this means for the consumer is that you really have limited choice, but does mean that refinishing is easier as many coating companies sign up to the Council's codes. As for what you actually want, that really will come down to what you have next to it. Greys can look either dark or light depending on wall colour and the amount of natural light. White can look odd as it can reflect colours. 1
Great_scot_selfbuild Posted August 8, 2025 Author Posted August 8, 2025 We’ve gone for black - it’ll match a couple of other doors off the hall, or so our budget is hoping! 1
