Triassic Posted July 30 Posted July 30 (edited) I helping out at a Scout campsite as they have an issue with a 50 year old ‘temporary’ building. The building in question started life as a large open plan class room. About 40 years ago it was moved from the school to site and converted into an accommodation block and shiwer room and his and hers toilets. An initial inspection has revealed that the timber floor cassette is infested with wood worm. Before condemning the whole building the charity trustees have asked if a timber specialist surveyor could look at the building to see if it can be saved. A local search has brought up lots of wood treatment companies, but no timber structure specialist. Can anyone recommend anyone? Edited July 30 by Triassic

Any decent carpenter/joiner should be able to assess this for you, and declare whether it can be saved or is too far gone? Specialist will prob look to make a meal out of it. 1
SteamyTea Posted July 30 Posted July 30 (edited) If it is going to stay as a shower block, salvage the good timber, windows, doors, roof maybe etc, and rebuild in block. It will last 100 years then. Probably cheaper to do as well. Edited July 30 by SteamyTea 1
Triassic Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 The problem is often with charities is they want an ‘expert’ to tell them it’s all going to ok!! I do agree a decent joiner/carpenter might be the way to go. I’ll see if I can find one with a few letters behind his name! One of the fundraising volunteers has applied to DIY SOS big build, lets hope they take it on!! 1
