Borders Man Posted Monday at 07:21 Posted Monday at 07:21 I am building a single storey cottage. It will have an Air Source Heat Pump and underfloor heating throughout. We plan to put carpet in 3 bedrooms, but are receiving conflicting advice over the Tog value. Is it 2.5 Tog or 1.5 Tog for the underlay and carpet combined? Can anyone clarify? I think because we will have ASHP and U/Floor heating it is 1.5 but with the underlay at 0.7 tog it will be challenging to find a suitable carpet. All advice welcomed - thanks
JohnMo Posted Monday at 07:27 Posted Monday at 07:27 We have carpet and it really kills the performance of the UFH. Best advise is not to let the other half or partner anywhere near the carpet shop. But will have your head on a platter when you choice the best stuff for UFH, because it's not got a luxury feel. My go to advise now is really don't waste your time and money on bedroom UFH. So Tag target - is as low as you can get away with.
BotusBuild Posted Monday at 08:24 Posted Monday at 08:24 Buy her a really nice pair of slippers and a really small rug at her side of the bed 😁
Temp Posted Monday at 10:30 Posted Monday at 10:30 Some carpets are available in two versions, one with a rubber backing and the other with a Hessian backing. These have different TOG values. Beware because the small print on order forms normally allows the shop to supply either version at their choice. Many carpet sales staff haven't a clue what a TOG value is so ask to see the makers spec/data or go elsewhere if you can't see it. One told me a carpet we asked about had a TOG value over 10 which was clearly nonsense.
