Mortar joint thickness- maximum?

What's the maximum thickness of mortar that's sensible for facing bricks which will stand the test of time?

10-15 is perfect

10mm is the standard in the UK, in Denmark they go up to 16mm and use sharp sand in the mortar. Just remember the bigger the mortar joint the more impact it has on the overall visual appearance of the wall.
