Vesa Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Hello All. So, I had my first experiments using resin for kitchen worktops. It worked ok, looked ok, but it doesn’t have the heat resistance I was hoping for. I need a kitchen where I can concentrate on cooking, rather than worrying about the surfaces getting damaged by hot pans etc. (or even a hot cup of tea!). I am now looking into other low-cost DIY options. Has anyone tried microcement for worktops? Any experience with any specific type or manufacturer? And what about coatings to make it waterproof? I’m thinking maybe 2-part PU? Varnish of some sort? Or several coats of tung oil? What are your thoughts?
Beau Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I've just got sent some colour samples from a microcement supplier. Been using them as coasters and they have proved hot coffee cup proof so far 😄
JohnMo Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I would Live with what you have for now Save your money Buy a proper top You will possibly spend just as much faffing about anyway.
arbennett Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago We have micro cement worktops, they’re fairly heat resistant, I wouldn’t put a pan straight of the hob on it though. In terms of staining, I believe the product we used is somewhat inferior and does stain with things like very deep reds if left on the surface. Washing up liquid does lift most staining out. We also have one rust stain from leaving a stainless bowl on the surface with a small amount of surface water under it. I’d probably not use it again on the worktop, but in our bathroom it is grand because there’s nothing to stain it.
