I have a stupid and trivial question. A ventilation cover keeps falling every time I close a door. (I have positive-input ventilation; does this make a difference?) I got a new cover, thinking the old one must be broken, but the same happens with the new cover. What to do? I am not supposed to seal it with acrylic or what have you, am I?

Need access to the pipe for maintenance?

Put a rubber band round the  cover (to form a weak seal) where it slides into the pipe. Test. Adapt. Retest

 Leave the bloody door open.

Looks like the black bit is meant to friction fit.  Failing that, a bead of decorators caulk around the rim of the white bit will hold it securely to the plaster.  You can always cut round it later if you need to remove it for any reason.
