Yeah - nothing in materials and I don't have the exact breakdown, but adds about £500/slab in labour to achieve that finish. I wasn't aware that it existed until we saw it in a showroom in a very run down area.

So if you have 5k of appliances + vat but can’t claim the vat as it’s not allowed on them . Get the seller to add ‘free’ appliances . But increase the total cost by 5k+vat . Then you can claim the vat as technically the appliances were free . I thought the fitted appliances where VAT allowable - have I got that wrong? 1

Indy Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 (edited) From what I've been told - a freestanding appliance is not eligible for zero VAT. So an American style freestanding fridge/freezer would not qualify but integrated appliances would as they are 'built into the fabric' rather than just unplug and take it away types. I thought for example an oven isn’t eligible because it can be literally plug in and take away . Also I thought hobs weren’t but extractors were ( sometime ago so may have that wrong )
Susie Posted February 16 Posted February 16 VAT A hob with a built in extractor in the hob is allowable, a hob only is not allowable, an extractor is allowable. an oven, washing machine, dryer etc not allowable an Aga type oven if it also heats water is allowable Having a plug or being hardwired doesn’t change anything. The whole ‘what is allowable?’ Can be looked up in the VAT guide. I wouldn’t rely on any logic.

Kelvin Posted February 17 Posted February 17 We used DiY online kitchens for the utility room and a Scottish based company for the main kitchen who manufacture the kitchens in Scotland (although they also do a German brand) There’s a definite quality difference between the DiY online kitchen and our main kitchen but it’s still pretty good. There was a problem with the finish on two of the doors which they replaced really quickly. We had a few difficult install problems with our main kitchen but because they built their own units it was easy enough to fix other than the delay. We did get a quote for a handmade kitchen and it was a similar price. Our main kitchen was £27k fitted including stone worktop, Quooker, sink, and all appliances. The DiY online kitchen was £2500 including a solid oak worktop, sink and taps. I fitted the utility room kitchen and the main kitchen supplier fitted that.
