The Noust
We have a new build house, the electricity supply has been laid and we have the MPAN. We selected an electricity supplier on the basis of the earliest indicated meter installation date. Since then, our chosen supplier has been unable to give a meter installation date and is now saying it will be spring 2025 earliest. We are now trying to change supplier but because there is no meter this appears to be very difficult. Does anyone have any experience changing supplier before a meter has been installed? What process did you go through? Many thanks.

I'm actually with Octopus but they don't seem to understand Scottish rural areas, hence why I'm trying to move.
ProDave
I would escalate this to a complaint to the CEO of Octopus. Have they explained what the problem is? I don't believe it is just because you are in rural Scotland though getting a smart meter to communicate may not be a trivial matter (but at least it would be a meter and you can get on)

In the end they basically said that by coming to a rural area (Argyll & Bute, PA21 Post Code) in winter they might get stuck due to weather and then their other customers could be affected. At that stage I decided to move supplier, but without a meter that seems incredibly difficult. Hence the question if anyone else had experience of switching a new supply before the meter has been installed.
