How much paint needed to paint a front door

Afternoon!

 

So I have a metal front house (sitex) door that I want to paint. Only want to paint the front of it. Only plan to sand it then paint it once

 

Would one small 250ml can of Hammerite paint be enough? I mean I dont want to end up with pain in storage that will go off in 10 years time next time I need it

PS are there cheaper metal paints out there apart from Hammerite

I asked my neighbour the same question as we have the same sized doors.

He said 1.5 litres.

I went and got 1.5 litres and painted the door, had over a litre left.

When I said to him about the amount left over, he said 'yes, same amount as me'

Several options for metal paint, depends on what the surface is like now. Hammerstein is good if you don’t need a good finish or to do any/much prep.

if you are going to put a bit of effort in then flat, etch primer and then rattle can or brushing enamel (all available from vehicle paint places).

BTW was it a metal or wooden door?

Not bad, I mean no rust, just faded brown paint (with grathete) that dose not look nice

Im using my mini grinder to clean it up. Any recommendations on a paint for good finish (black)

From memory the lads with the body shops round hear use 3 pains. A primer, lacker, and something for finishing (cant rememer now)

Since as there is no rust though and paintwork is ok; do I need a primer?

Hi @lord mud of the flyes better to always use a primer to improve adhesion to the surface wether it’s bare or paint, aerosol etch primer is good stuff.

body shops often have primer/base coat/laquer - mainly due to metallics which really need a clear coat over the top.

black is a solid colour so no laquer/clear coat needed. Most areas have a place for car painting supplies and these are your best bet for the paint.
