August 19, 20242 yr Morning everyone. I sprayed the 1st / white wash coat on my walls a few months ago and haven't put anymore coats on so far. The plaster had been dry for about 6 weeks before painting and I used a good quality paint, watered down as per the instructions. I've just had some masking tape on some of the walls whilst fitting my newel posts, which was only on the walls for maybe ½hr but when I've pulled the tape off its taken some paint with it. Why has it done this, and should i do anything before putting the second coat on to help it? Did I put the wash coat on too thick ?
August 19, 20242 yr Hi @Barnboy My two penny worth is this: I have had this happen when: I left the masking tape on a long time The plaster had become dusty in the time between plastering and painting Try rubbing a small area of the paint with a damp cloth and see how much comes off. If it come off easily I would be concerned that the next coat that goes on will come off easily and try a small area to see if this is true before going any further. I'm sure others will have good advice... Good luck Marvin
August 19, 20242 yr Very dependent on paint. The Valspar Coverall stuff I used for the mist coat and upstairs isn’t very robust and will come off with the masking tape if I leave it on too long. The stuff I used downstairs is as hard as nails and is even quite hard to sand.
August 19, 20242 yr Is it standard masking tape or decorating specific like frogtape? Some of the standard tapes are just too tacky.

I'm going to try some of thebyellow frog tape as I need to mask up and spray the walls with their top coat and the ceiling has already had its top coat in a different colour.
