zdravkoc
It has a soft and foamy texture and Its set on the inside of the original exterior wall of the building. Is it vermiculite insulation and what are the asbestos related risks if anyone can advise? Thank you Edited January 10 by zdravkoc
markc
It could be vermiculite, but possibly brown asbestos. Do you need to remove it? just re read your post, is this under the plaster? Or filling a void? Edited January 10 by markc
Alan Ambrose
The vermiculite I've seen is grey-ish/white-ish granules, and the old stuff did tend to have some asbestos fibres in it. Looks like cork from here?
Alan Ambrose
Another recent thread on here recommended getting an asbestos testing kit.

I don't need to remove it It's under the plaster, seems like the exterior walls in the kitchen and bathroom were insulated with what appears block of this. Looks like cork from here? I think you might possibly be right about cork, after checking online it does appear like it could possibly be expanded cork granulates. Does expanded cork have a foamy light texture? Edited January 11 by zdravkoc
markc
I never thought about cork, but looking at it again I reckon @Alan Ambrose is right. If you squash a piece does it spring back to shape? If so then yes it must be cork, the white stuff will probably be a mould growing on it.
Conor
Vermiculite has a layered structure with a metallic, shiny appearance on smooth sides. Asbestos is grey/white and fibrous. Looks like you've got something else entirely
