Dmcturk Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Afternoon all, I now have plans approved and engineering details, but trying to figure out how to use external renderboard and ventilate the block and beam floor below. Architect has proposed a low level block plinth to facilitate the periscope vents, and then render boards above, but this will create a step in the wall. any thoughts?? Thanks
saveasteading Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Sketch please? It sounds as if ventilation has been an afterthought. When you say the plans have been approved, by whom?
Dmcturk Posted October 1, 2023 Author Posted October 1, 2023 This is what has been designed, but want to know if I can do away with the brick/block plinth
saveasteading Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I'm more concerned that beneath your floor is effectively a basement, ie below ground level and could fill with water. Even the floor slab is below ground level. Is there a reason for this?
Benpointer Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Resurrecting this one. We have the same challenge. Architect felt the B&B floor could vent into the external 50mm vented cavity between the timber frame and the render boards but the BI says they must vent to 'fresh air'. I was thinking something like Rytons Periscope vents https://rts.vents.co.uk/blog/product-details/rytons-periscope-underfloor-ventilator-pufv/ but they seem to assume an outer masonry skin, we will only have renderboard + a through colour render, say 30mm in total, so no room to fit an air brick. Others must have encountered this issue before, any ideas?
