Jimbo37
I'm building a 2 storey house. The following applies - one entire side of stairs is a solid wall - the first downstairs step is a quarter landing, because stairs immediately turns right - a handrail runs up from first step to top step without breaks My question, please. Can I start my spindles from step 3 (ie no spindles on quarter landing or the first step)? Edited September 21, 2023 by Jimbo37
DevilDamo
I think that should be ok as guarding us usually required where there is a difference in height of over 600mm. Would like somebody else to review and comment on that though.
Jimbo37
Thanks @DevilDamo. Half of being wise is knowing what you don't know (for certain)!
kandgmitchell
Your sketch appears to show the first spindle about half way between the first tread in the flight (Step 2 ) and the second tread (Step 3). If that total rise at that point isn't more than 600mm then it's Ok in E & W, however the NI regs may be different......
