Alisorrell
Hi, We built our certified passivhaus some 8 eight years ago and am delighted with it. However, cleaning the filters the other day, which I do say every four months or so, the amount of insects in there made me think. I looked at previous posts about this and suggestions about putting a filter on. But these posts seemed to be more about the functionality of the machine rather than damage to insect life. Any thoughts? I would hate to think my lovely green house is actually damaging wildlife quite contrary to the whole philosophy. Alison T
George
You should certainly have an insect screen on the external air intake. I like insects, but not in the house. Spiders I live with, but flies get swatted, trapped or fried, I'm afraid.
Dave Jones
isnt that what the filters are for ? Agree with a screen though.
MikeGrahamT21
Make sure you can access any mesh, as it will soon get clogged up on the outside. I doubt any insect death to MVHR would be measurable in the greater environment, most things will likely be midges which don’t live very long anyway
SteamyTea
You should be happy that you have insects to kill. Rachael Carson said we had killed them all with DDT. She was wrong.
