Hello, we have a 1930's solid wall bungalow, cable end front and back, we are about to have a re-roof done in the spring. Next year I want to add EWI but I've only about 60mm overhang on the eves down each side of the bungalow, has anyone extended the rafter tails, if so how was it done? Not sure if this should be in the heat insulation or roof section.

Thanks Rich

Yes, we wanted to increase the overhang of our roof and we just nailed pieces of 2x5's onto the side at the end of all the rafters, stung a line along them and recut the tail. Job done.

+1 to the above, timber used for the extensions does not need to be full height of rafter as the additional overhang and associated loads are minimal

It was a little less straightforward for us since (a) every extension had to be birdsmouthed and (b) the roof has spread in the middle. At that point I was glad I wasn't doing that bit. Less glad when I got the roofer's bill! We had to extend eaves x 1 elev and verge x 1 elev (we only EWI'd 2 sides). We bolted rather than nailed.
