PaulOB
An elderly friend is purchasing a new house and there are three steep steps to the front door. Would she be able to extend the going and say increase the number of steps to six thereby reducing the rise by 50%. Would there be any planning issues? Any advice greatly appreciated. Not sure if I have posted this in the correct place.
Mr Punter
It is quite unusual to get this on a new house as they attempt to have stepless access but I guess the topography dictated it. Would a ramp work or is there not enough space? I doubt there would be a planning issue unless this is a conservation area.
Temp
I suppose in theory if you raise any area by more than 30cm they might call it a "raised platform" but I think its unlikely to be a problem unless you create something very ugly or large in area. Iceverge
I don't think any council would waste resources and community good will by enforcing the removal of a ramp to prevent someone old getting into their own house. I would just build it and be done.
