Insulating oak framed/ wood clad garage

Evening all,

Wonder if you can help.

Our house and garage build is complete and one item I was looking to decide on towards the end was insulating and plaster boarding the garage.

Unfortunately the builder has moved on to other projects now so doesn’t really have the manning available to complete the extra work.

Im just looking to retain a-bit of heat not be fully air tight etc

The garage is wood clad with no membrane currently on the walls.

Ceiling was going to be plaster boarded the wool type insulation added which is fairly simple.

My main question is what do I do with the walls?

Plan was 50mm celotex type insulation but do I need any breather membrane or in-permeable membrane in there some where?

If so would this go between the cladding and celotex or between the celotex and plasterboard?

Plaster board, would this need to be foil backed?

Thanks for any pointers, never done anything like this before!

My garage is very silver inside.

Ceiling 25mm PIR boards screwed with spreader washers to ceiling rafters, then joints taped.   Above that is 100mm of mineral wool.

Walls, 100mm accoustic mineral wool in vertical wall timber, then covered in a foil membrane.

Insulated roller doors, insulated side door.

Garage not heated, but may use an electric heater at odd times.

Hi Dan,

Is the front remaining open?

If so insulation won't make any difference.

Morning, yes have insulated roller doors on now, looking to install 1 maybe 2 oil filled rads in there.

From doing some research looks like I will need to try and cut in a breather membrane on the uprights on cladding side (wish they had done this before cladding!)

Then pir insulation

Then vapour barrier

Then plasterboard

Would anyone happen to know if moisture resistant plasterboard would still be required if a vapour barrier is used?

Many thanks for any help
