benben5555 Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Hi, I need to turn off the water at the external stop tap. I've opened the cover and the meter is visible, but there is no stop tap. Does anyone know how to isolate the water in a boundary box like this? I'm sure there is a simple answer but I couldn't work it out!
Nickfromwales Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Have you looked further upstream for a communal stopcock? I linked one of these from eBay, and it did not appear to have any kind of isolation. Been plumbing for nearly 3 decades and I have never encountered one of these tbh.
same issue Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Same issue here. How on earth do you shut off the water? There is a collar with 'ON' visible. What kind of key is required??
marshian Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Doesn't the top twist to turn it off? Hence the ON being visible - the top turned then should reveal an "OFF"
Conor Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 These kind of meter boxes often have a removable tool to turn them on or off. Deep down, on the supply side of the meter, there will be a small hex, slot or square shaped fitting that is the top of the valve. Get a torch and have a look down there.
same issue Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 The top of the meter just spins, to change the orientation of the reading. Link provided by benben5555: https://www.stuartplumbing.co.uk/todays-tools-yellow-water-meter-stop-tap-key/ Colour now blue.
