Hi,

My name is Lori, thank you for accepting me on building hub. Can anyone give me any advice on how to take bitumen paint of a victorian gable end Or am I better just leaving it and point the gable end with lime ?

Welcome. Bitumen paint is a real pain to remove, even sand blasting takes time because bitumen is pliable and most of the sand bounces off. Hard iron shot will quickly remove it but that really needs to be done in a tented area, not in the open

Now that looks like it has set hard, if you pick at it does it flake off?

if so then sand blasting or a needle gun or wire brush on a grinder will remove it.

No it doesn't.

Bugger! Yes it’s a pain to remove. Even pointing will be tedious because bitumen will clog the grinder or cutter used for raking out the old mortar.
