Porthole
Hi there I am thinking of laying hardboard on top of my floor boards as there are quite big gaps in them and thought this might help reduce the dust which makes the carpets black. Just thinking of 3mm hardboard. Can someone please advise how best this is cut and attached to the floorboards. Would a stapler gun do? I am not sure that the builder will do this for us so is it something which is easily done? Would these boards be laid abutting the skirting boards and the grippers just put on top? Thanks very much
TonyT
Can’t comment on hardboard, but did this with 6mm ply. it was cut with a utility knife and nailed with ring shank nails.
markc
Hardboard isn’t great, it’s basically compressed cardboard. As above, 6mm ply would be much better. staples would stay proud of hardboard more than in ply so nails are much better. Screws better still Edited April 6, 2022 by markc
Conor
As above, thin ply and use as an electric Brad nailer (can get one from Screwfix for a few quid, and will drive 12-18mm pins in nicely).
