I'm starting to question whether the current design is doable within our budget, but I'll keep plugging away researching and informing myself as much as possible to establish this one way or another. I've put a post up on the foundations section for people to give their views on what the art of the possible is. Removing complexity is key to removing cost - you don't need to resign yourself to a featureless box but some architects will include details without much thought on how it will be built. Groundwork is often the biggest unknown cost so get that nailed down first and understand what different options will cost then work forward on slab and frame etc.
