SuperPav
So after the dilemma of whether to stick with (rerouted) gas or bite the bullet and move to ASHP, I think we'll be sticking with the BH consensus of gas for now. However, we'd like to future proof for ASHP, so with that in mind can somebody recommend a pre-plumbed UVC (~300 litre) which can be used with a gas boiler in the interim and could then work with an ASHP if required (but doesn't need to work with both/solar simultaneously). Wet UFH groundfloor Radiators upstairs (oversized for lower delta T) 300 litres based on 1 bath + 2 showers, and the fact where it's going we've got space. JohnMo
Can you not run the boiler output through a cylinder coil designed for a heat pump. Even run the boiler at the same supply temps as an ASHP?
Rishard
I’m also working to a similar plan to yourself. Just waiting on a price for a mains gas reconnection which may answer the future of my ashp vs gas dilemma.
Dillsue
Speak to Newark Copper cylinders, tell them what you want to achieve and let them design the cylinder. Id specify a coil each for the boiler, ashp and solar thermal to keep your options open. Also have 2 immersion bosses so you can have flexibility over where heat directly. Get extra insulation. May cost few £100 more but youve got flexibility in the future....who knows where fuel/energy cost and technology are going

It’s now on the ASHP with no changes except the incoming pipe work. Nice bit of future-proofing!

Personally, Id always want a choice of heat inputs so not wholly reliant on a single source. In the OPs position keep the boiler as primary source for now but have a separate coil for a future HP. When the HP goes in keep the boiler as a back up....who knows where hydrogen development is going in the future
