Triassic Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 (edited) When I had the structural calculations done for the balcony the structural engineer specified timber rather than steel. If I now want to use steel rather than timber, do I need to redo the structural calculations, or is there some sort equivalences chart for steel versus timber? In normal circumstances I'd ask the structural engineer, however he retired during Covid and his web site and email no longer work. Edited February 3, 2022 by Triassic
gravelrash Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Why steel...its sky high price at the moment. I just recently swapped steel to KERTO beams in build as steel was £1100 and 2 x 220 x 90 x 5350 Keto beams £150.
JohnMo Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 To answer your question, structural calcs would need to be redone

Mainly because the balcony is 2.5m wide and 16m long with 20mm glazing the three sides. I was'nt sure if timber was the way to go?
