Lennox
Part of my refurb will require a Re-roof. Most of the properties in the area (Lake District) appear to be natural slate, however all of these roofs look very stained and I would like to maintain a clean uniform look. Can this be achieved with slate or any of the artificial options?
PeterW
Staining is usually due to either an external factor (a lead or copper ridge leaching salts for example) or because cheap slate with high ferric content has caused staining due to rainfall. Lennox
Can this be avoided using artificial slate options or by perhaps coating natural slate with some type of protection?
nod
I often work in the Lake District Local councils are pretty keen So more than likely they will tell you to use a Westmorland slate Whilst there not cheap They are superior quality to the majority of imported slate and should give you little or no trouble
Lennox
Planning haven’t specified our roof type so this isn’t a problem. even the Westmorland slate roofs I have looked at appear dirty / stained, it probably the amount of rain and associated moss and stuff.
