Hey,it’s nice to be on these forums-where one can share and ask about new builds-I’m currently saving for land and looking to do a new build: all by my self- I’m looking to do a concrete slab foundation, with brick build.. I’m currently learning about cad& how to do the roof..I’ve got many questions to ask.. I’m hoping to get planning permission for swansea- land cost 30-70£ and I’m just in the final stages of saving… I’m looking to purchase next year… I’m looking to do it my self; this is my first build..so wish me luck… thanks for looking. And I look forward to joking in…

 Rick and block is our preferred option for our first and next builds Quite a bit cheaper than timber frame 

Your slab and foundations will be dictated by ground conditions 

Most Structural Engineers push for block and beam 

We did on our first due to trees 

and have been pushed towards BB on our next

Thank you for your reply- that sounds daunting; your 2nd build… I’m going to be living on site in caravan :it’s second hand to me… I’m in need of a forming -the chivalry !!!

Keep it small and simple. The closer to a box the better. Avoid unusual techniques and materials. 

 

Don't underestimate the amount of work required, things take 3 times as long as you think.

I concur. I really enjoyed my build, despite being told it will be stressful, I did not. Not everybody can take this in their stride but I was very lucky I had a brilliant main contractor.
