Paul pk
Some advice will be greatly appreciated; Planned to build a garage as per drawing below but came in way too expensive. Now planning same dimensions but pad rather than footings and timber frame construction with 'goal post steel' due to large flat roof span. Builder asked for engineer report on steel required to ensure that it holds heavy loads such as snow. Asked Architect to request calculations from Structural engineers for this. Quote for calculations came in just shy of £1000 plus vat! My questions; 1. Is there a more cost effective way of acquiring steel calculations for this? (I looked at on-line calculators but they did not allow for my span!) 2. My builder was referring to a steel across the centre width of the garage only. As the opening for a double roller garage door is large, would I also require a steel across the front of the build? Note dimensions are 7500mm width and 6500mm deep. Thanks in advance, Paul
Temp
My guess is the builder will use two steels the same size so he only needs calculations for the one with longer span. No doubt another forum member can recommend a cheaper SE service.
