Apologies for making a topic just for a single question, did a search but can't find a decent answer.

Sealing PVC ductwork... taking a look at the data sheets for the proprietary duct sealant products (e.g. Soudaduct), they just appears to be decorators caulk, with a little more flex. Has anyone just used caulk instead?

In a domestic set up I can't imagine the sealant is under very much pressure.

I would also be taping.

Alternatively I could use general purpose silicone, which will seal anything.

I got some Domas DDseal from my electrical wholesaler without too much trouble.

If memory serves it seemed to be the only thing that was specifically quoted as being suitable for PVC and metal.

Other products I found only referred to metal ducting.

Just in case its of use to anyone in the future, I checked with Soudal about using Soudalduct with plastic ventilation pipe, I said I wanted to check because it only mentions metal ducting, the technical advisor said that was its primary use but its fine for plastic as well.
