Steve1
Hi guys Just starting building my 'retirement' house in Bristol. Had my own building company for about 25 years up until 15 years ago. A lot has changed since then and I am playing catching up with technology. Trained as a Civil Engineer in the late 70's but really practiced as a site chippy on the tools for most of the 25 years!! Its in the blood I think, generations of carpenters!! I great resource here and a lot of knowledge.
Mr Punter
Hi @Steve1 and welcome. It sounds like you know plenty. What construction type are you using? There are a few other members here from Bristol. They are not all mental.
joe90
Hi Steve, I escaped from Bristol. Yes as an ex builder you will have lots of knowledge and skills, I too was a builder, but as you said, technology has moved a pace , especially in building. This forum has been brilliant in bringing me up to speed on new techniques when building my retirement home. I have learned so much. Looking forward to following your questions and progress with your build. We are more like a club.

Steve1
Hi All Well that is a really nice welcome to your club. I've bought this really small site with planning and just submitted plans yesterday to amend it. The existing planning was gained I think just to facilitate a sale whch it obviously achieved. The site is in a very nice location but is only 10.5m x 8.5m and bounded by two roads so on a corner with a large retaining wall at the rear on a sloping site. So mmmm certainly a challenge, especially now I have decided to add a basement!! That will be RC but above will be timber frame (self built) probably with brick slips (Eurobrick P clad, they are in Bristol too).
