Jenjen
As part of our drainage solution which has (finally) been signed off by Scottish Water we need to put in a 150mm pipe and new disconnecting manhole en route which involves about 95m of pipe. Part of the path of the pipe crosses a barely used public footpath so a small amount of digging up and restoring tarmac is involved. Our contractor has quoted £14k for this - does this sound about right or does this seem excessive?
nod
If he’s going over unmade ground It does sound expensive
Conor
That's over £140 a metre. That's excessive. That's the kind of money you'd pay for a large diameter public sewer. I'd be looking for a new contractor. But devil is in the detail... Is there difficult or specialist reinstatement? What depth does the main and manhood need to be? Does this include connection charge to the public sewer? Is it pvc pipe or two wall polythene?
scottishjohn
If he is doing it as per the book as well as the twin wall -he will need a shed load of pea gravel for sit it in for 95m + maybe spec is for brick inspection chambers and proper man size - no just a rodding hole If its very deep and poor soggy ground maybe he got to hold side of trench up while he fits it ?. maybe rock to peck out in the route to get depth required devil is in the detail for sure --get an itemised quote from your man - scan it with out the heading post it up and let us see
Jenjen
Thanks for the responses so far. I’ve asked for a breakdown so will be able to report back soon. To be fair our contractor has been fab with everything else, this is just a big unexpected budget hit so just thought it was worth asking the question on here.
