bmt216a
Hello, Apologies in advance if this has been covered, but I can’t find the answer to my question on the forum. I’m due to start works on my barn conversion in March and have appointed a builder to get the building to a water tight shell. He rightly said as it’s a barn conversion, he’ll charge me 5%vat. If the builder is purchasing the materials for the build, when I come to claim the VAT back, do I need all off his invoices for the materials to claim, or is his invoice for work with 5% vat inc suffice to claim back from HMRC? Thanks Ian
nod
You will need the invoices Perhaps worth opening a cash account the merchant he uses So you can be billed direct
newhome
There is a very recent thread in the regular member’s sub forum that is discussing a barn conversion and VAT. @PeterW any chance of increasing @bmt216a‘s post count to allow access please? It’s here when you get access You won’t need the invoices that your builder has been given when he purchased the materials from a merchant (he will need those for his own VAT accounts) but you will need supply & fit invoices from him charging you 5% on the whole invoice amount and presumably detailing the materials he has supplied so windows, roof tiles or whatever so that you can send these to HMRC.
