Pocster
I bought a cheap tripod off eBay with a ‘standard’ fitting . Needless to say it doesn’t fit my dewalt laser . spec of tripod is 5/8 inch connector I think dewalt laser thread is 0.25” Can anyone point me in the direction of a thread connector type thing to connect these two ? Ed Davies
https://www.amazon.co.uk/NICEYRIG-Thread-Adapter-Microphone-Female/dp/B07646GV3W Difficult to be sure from the photo if you need a 5/8th male or female. I assume female but if male then there are probably more adapters available. Edited January 15, 2020 by Ed Davies

Pocster
Well it almost fitted! Screws into dewalt laser no issue. But on tripod stand it's too loose (must be just 1 or 2 mm out ). So erm; what should I order now - half way there! ? Ed Davies
Probably need to check that thread on the tripod is really 5/8th. Should be 27 threads per inch, might be easier to check that.
Temp
Wikipedia suggest a number of possible threads. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripod_(photography) See under subheading "construction".
Stewpot
As far as I can see, things like camera mounts, laser levels, and other optical sort of stuff that may need tripod mounting, tend to use UNC threads (American). I suppose you may get away with Whitworth, if you can find any these days. Except for my telescope tripod, which is an M10.
