I am performing a fabric upgrade on our house. Work to be done includes: - EWI - New windows, doors - Establishing AT layer - Digging out foundations for EWI - Designed ventilation - Resizing of window openings (enlarging and shrinking) I have done: - Overall aesthetic look (it's not really changed much, but thicker walls and more contemporary look to the joinery) - Energy model - Generic details for important installations, e.g. window installation, treatment of eaves (before deciding on manufacturers) What I need to do: - BC approval - Planning approval (don't think there'll be much of this, not listed nor in conservation area) - Choose suppliers and products - Update details to follow systems chosen - Arrange finance What should my ordering be next? I don't want to get BC approval only to find our budget won't work for what we have got approval for! Should we finalise the entire design first?

Given a careful risk assessment and appropriate safety plan, Is there any reason why we should not put our roof on before we fit the first floor? We have more than enough kwikstage to put up a proper, safe working platform several feet above the first floor level both inside and outside the house, sufficient also to take us to the roof apex. You might be aware that we've found it difficult to get trades to come and what do what they say they will do when they say they will do it. My concern is lack of communication when the normal rescheduling process occurs. (For example) If we had a waterproof roof, then working inside would be much less subject to scheduling crises. And that has been our main issue since the beginning of the build.

We're trying to hide our toaster. Why? Not much work surface. And clutter annoys me (us). Has anyone found a way to hide a toaster? I think we can sort out our microwave, oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, easily enough, but has anyone found a way to 'disappear' a toaster in a way which allows everyone to use it easily? Of course we can just stick it in a cupboard: but how do you deal efficiently with the inevitable smoke, crumbs and usability issues?
