Could do with a bit of guidance from the great people here 🙂 How do you secure a bolts in to a timber stud for a canopy? I've bought my entrance-door canopy (to comply with Part M, stock photo below), which takes 3x bolts for each of its two brackets. I am wondering how to attach the canopy in to the timber stud to above my entrance door. I will be screwing into a triple stud of 45 x 240 structural timber. The fixings will go through the cladding (brackets > brick slips 15mm > backing board 10mm > batten 19mm > sheathing 9mm). I am thinking of stainless m8 boltsfor a strong fixing into the studwork: 120mm, countersunk stainless steel. Do I glue in the bolt in to the stud? Any help much appreciated.

Hi all, I am in the process of getting quotes for my self build timber kit. I have managed to get a lot of good advice on this forum so far! One thing I am not sure of is the advantages of an i-stud as opposed to regular timber? I can see the advantages of webbed i-joists as it will make the running or services/mvhr so much easier (amongst other benefits) but whats better with i-studs?

Is there merit in ordering a timber frame but without the stud walls included? Reasoning: @nod has persuaded me of the superiority of metal studs. And YouTube videos make them look easy and DIY-able. No resilience bars needed with metal studs for acoustic insulation. I assume that metal studs will have less (no?) drying shrinkage. Less need to fix plaster cracks and repaint, at least for stud walls (would still need to fix cracks in the exterior wood panel walls). Seems to be a big benefit. I hope that the frame supplier would reduce my frame quote accordingly, although I suspect the stud walls won't represent a large part of the total. [Specific benefit to me] less on-site storage needed for the studs during frame assembly. (I have a very cramped plot.) What are the flaws in my reasoning please (I assume there are many)? Any other advantages of metal studs? (Context: new build. Will be ordering my timber frame as soon as I get planning approval, maybe in 6-weeks or so. MBC is my current favoured supplier. Frame will be 140mm open panel with U-value of 0.11).
