  1. Hello all, I was just chatting to my neighbour and we got on to the subject of her ASHP. She's had it operational for about 2 or 3 years and qualified for RHI for which she is receiving her payout from Rishi & Co. We'd been talking about firewood and I asked if she needed any, she said that she wasn't allowed to have a wood-burning stove (or any alternative source of heating!) under the conditions of the RHI agreement. Does that sound right? She mentioned how much she was spending on electricity each month to run the ASHP and I almost passed out! I suggested that she should consider PV panels to help power the ASHP and again she said that under the RHI agreement she couldn't install a PV system. This seems utterly illogical to me, is my neighbour misinformed? Thank you, Paul.
  2. Well, got the heating on 1st December and the MCS certificate first week if January. The EPC took a while. The online ones were a waste of time so got a local (ish) man in. Although he was very busy so it did take a couple of weeks. Got the EPC the second week in Feb then filled in the online RHI forms and process. Went well except we used the joint build bank account for the payments. Once entered it can't be changed. So the needed verification of the account, inside leg, number of eyes etc. However they are excellent on the phone. A couple of emails and it was sorted. Got the payment detail though today. All in with the UFH (400sqm) and 1500m of pipe in the garden and while we did most of the install ouselves, elecrical, most plumbing and all UFH. it still cost around £35k for the whole heating and hotwater system . Good news that the RHI will cover this over the seven years.
  3. Hey all, Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place.... Couldn't find a relevant thread... So we are nearing completion, we have been living at the house ie. using it in a domestic sense, for just over a year. We installed an Air Source Heat Pump and got a loan from Home Energy Scotland. We were assured that the Domestic RHI would pay for our loan. We have our MSC Certificate and our EPC. Ofgem and the Domestic RHI team are completely ignoring all emails from me for some reason. We're hugely aware of the fact that the deadline is coming up - they questioned how many days we had lived in the house, I told them we were here every day using it and the heat pump every day for the last year. I've chased the guy 4 times - no response. I'm on Twitter trying to get through to Ofgem. I'm trying them on the phone but keep missing their opening hours. I just want to find out if they're trying to dodge me, and if other people in a similar situation got the RHI all sorted? I'm starting to worry, as we really can't afford these monthly payments and would DEFINITELY not have chosen to go with an ASHP otherwise... Thanks! Joanna
  4. I currently have an outdated oil fired heating system and I need to replace the boiler, oil tank and pipework etc. I have been in touch with a Air source heat pump provider who quotes a flat £14995.00 install for and ecodan 8kw heat pump, 170 litre hot water tank, 10+ rads etc. Having had a survey done I am due to meet with a sales manager to finalise details. In regards to RHI I have been advised I would receive just under £11K from RHI over 7 years. I have a detached 5 bed house and wondered if this is setup would be suitable and if £15K is about right Any advice would be appreciated, thanks
  5. Still considering my heating options (see here) and looking at the RHI on an ASHP, I see that I need to get a new EPC as the other one I have is more than 2yrs old and the rating at the end of the highly useful report? tells me it an ' E' (46). So I would need to get a new assessment done before I have the ASHP fitted (should I indeed go that route). If I do decide to go down the ASHP route, then I want to get that installed at the same time as all the rest of the plumbing systems and not have the mess/extra labour visits/costs to fit an ASHP after the house is 'complete'. As of today, I have a shell of a house still. Would they still be able to undertake an assessment? Windows and doors in, so that'll be a tick for the 'doubled glazed' box on the assessor's sheet and I get a gold star for the panels on the roof. But I have no heating, the loft is bare (no insulation), old crappy CWI is mostly gone, so my efficiency rating would probably be closer to an F than an D! In terms of the RHI, that appears to be based on the total heat demand - but how is that assessed if I have no heating installed yet? Do I just inform the assessor that I will be fitting UVC/ST/Sunamp/re-instating the old oil boiler?
  6. In a rare bout of sanity a Northern Ireland Judge has ruled that paying pellet burning RHI claimants far more that the cost of the fuel (aka Cash for Ash) is not a good idea - Apparently overpaying by £700 Million over the next 20 years is against the public interest. Somewhat bizarrely it's only against the public interest this year - Next years the same lawyers will all be paid to come back and argue whether or not overpaying by £665 Million over 19 years is a good idea. The politician behind the scheme (a Mrs A. Foster) is currently pursuing other "money no object " initiatives. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-42443043 Maybe the judge could be persuaded to get on a ferry and take a look at the latest Hinkley-C master plan.
