  1. I don't really like the look of cooker hoods, especially those above an island hob. Not to mention that they are expensive. So I have been researching mounting an extractor grill in the ceiling above the hob instead. Seems easy to do. Just mount an egg-crate grill with plenum containing a grease filter in to the ceiling. Run ducting through the web joists to the adjacent utility room and a second exhaust grill. Locate a variable speed fan in the utility room so it is quiet. Put a variable switch near the hob. Flawed idea?
  2. Hi all We need to decide on what type of (recirculating) extraction we are having in the kitchen, we have had conflicting advice on this. We are having an Island and we have 2.6m high ceilings Initially, I wanted a flush fit ceiling hob but I was advised that the distance between the hood and the hob was going to be too much to be effective. Is this correct??? We do not want a bulkhead or a traditional island hood hanging down. The next option was looking at a downdraft sitting directly behind the hob. We are having a gas hob and have been advised that the manufacturers will not warranty a downdraft if it is used with a hob as it draws the heat/flames towards it and over time will cause heat damage (this was advised by the kitchen company we are ordering our kitchen from) We do have an MVHR system running in the kitchen too so there will be some consistent extraction going on.
  3. Hi I am looking for a recirculating, wall mounted 90cm cooker hood. Due to building restriction, no extraction is possible. My kitchen dimension is L3.5m x W2.4m x H 2.7m, with a fairly large window. The hob I plan to install is a gas hob, 75cm, 5 burners We do a fair amount of "greasy" cooking (asian stir fry and a lot of steak grilling), so something with optimal grease capture and easy to clean would be ideal. So far I have found these models in the same price range Novy 6510 Bosch DWB98JQ50B so basically entry level Novy vs higher range Bosch. Performance specs seem to be always specified in extraction mode, so it is hard to tell which is better. Does anyone have an opinion on what the best choice would be? Or any other suggestion? Thank you for your help.
