1960s Warm Air Heating Upgrade to Air to Air ASHP
RenewableNeil posted a topic in Introduce Yourself
Hi there, I’m quite new to forums but this site looked really interesting so happy to give it a go. I’m particularly interested in hearing about Air to Air ASHPs (or air conditioning units with heat pumps) that could be integrated into the existing ductwork of a 1960s property. It is currently being heated by a 30 year old Warm Air Gas Boiler (Lennox G10) that is still going strong but is probably nearing the end of it’s life and it’s feels like the right time to start considering renewable options. Thanks!- 6 replies

Hi All As mentioned in couple of previous posts, we are renovating a house with Warm Air heating. We are happy with the system but it will not work after renovation (not possible to extend the system). Since we will update the whole system, one of the alternative is to use AC for heating and cooling. DHW can done by solar, E7. One of the issues we noticed was that EPC system is very limited. Our current Warm Air system has a new oil boiler with 90%+ Efficiency but EPC person couldn't find what to enter in system and entered lowest rating for heating. Few questions: Will we end up with similar issue if we use AC for whole house heating because it's not common in domestic market? Also since Air to air heating should use lower temperature than air->water->air so CoP should be better. Can anyone confirm this. Is anyone using AC for whole house heating, if yes what's your experience? Thanks

I'm still trying to figure out how to best combine a regular MVHR with an add-on to provide for additional heating/cooling if required and have come across the Mitsubishi Lossnay system that includes the option of adding a GUG Air Processing unit (datasheet attached) that can combine with a small ASHP to provide direct heating or cooling of the supply air. I'm guessing this unit could be added to any MVHR provided the system had been designed in the first place to allow for increased volumes of air flow to move hot/cold air around to achieve an effective cooling/heating effect. Has anybody any experience of such a system in a domestic house setting? Or is this kind of set-up mainly used for commercial buildings? GUG-010203SL-E_PI_SHEET.pdf

I need a device to keep one room rather cooler than the temperature the house is currently running at. Can anyone comment on technologies, or recommend best options? Since I have plenty of solar, I can be a little less cautious about power consumption etc, though obviously the less the better. In reality, I am probably after something portable - though I can consider options. I certainly do not have the outside unit a la Jeremy. The particular room only has an outside strip of wall perhaps 18" wide, as the rest is boundary with next door. Thanks Ferdinand
