  1. Hello, I am constructing a small shed (3.5m x 2.2m) that will be used only for storage. I want to render the external walls with the K-Rend silicone render to match my outbuilding and my house. I was wondering if you could help me understand what the best way to construct the shed is so that it does not cost a lot and can be rendered. My ideas: - wooden frame + OSD (not sure how easy it is to render over it) - wooden frame + cement board (seems like the way to go) - blocks (seems like a lot more work and expense) any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
  2. Ok, I think I know how it needs to be done. For everyone who may be looking for the same answers: How to construct a floating floor | Insulation | Kingspan | Great Britain
  3. Thank you @PeterW It makes sense. I think I will opt for laminate and some rubber floor in the gym area. This may be a basic question but I have not done it before: Does the DPM have to be glued to the concrete with anything (e.g, silicone?) and then the PIR to the DPM?
  4. Good afternoon, I am building a small outbuilding (30sqm - office and gym) on a raft foundation. The raft and walls are already in place and I trying to figure out the bast floor structure. Currently I am looking at: - DPM atop of the raft foundation concrete - 130mm PIR insulation atop of DBP - 22 OSD atop the insulation - floorboards atop the OSD What do you think about this structure? How would you recommend bonding all the layers together? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
  5. @Nickfromwales I am sorry to bother you again. I am doing the floor now and I am not sure how to bound all the layers together. I understand that I can use foam to bound the sacrificial EPS to the slab but what do I use to bound the DPM to the EPS and then PIR to the DPM? foam as well? Please could you help me understand how to do that?
  6. Hi @nod Thanks and sorry but I am a bit confused. Please could you explain what Rational Who is? MP
  7. Good afternoon, Does anybody have experience ordering Nien Made windows shutters? Is it possible to order them directly or is there any UK company that you would recommend? Or maybe you could recommend a good alternative? Many thanks for any ideas. MP
  8. Thank you @Gus Potter
  9. Hi @Gus Potter What thickness is your EPDM and what brand did you get? I am thinking about EPDM but I have never done it before. My flat roof stack for a small, 30sqm outbuilding (office, gym, bathroom with steam shoer) is going to as below:
  10. Thank you @markocosic I reckon you are right about the downlights and their suitability for an office I need to really think what lighting would be best for my video calls too. Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions. I still have my doubts about the rubber roof. I will have two 600x900 skylights. Do you think I should go for EPDM? If so, any particular thickness and brand you would recommend? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
  11. Good morning. I have recently joined too and have already received a tremendous help from this awesome community. You are in the right place.
  12. @markocosic I think it will be monocouche render to match what I have on the house.
  13. Thank you @Nickfromwales and @markocosic for all your comments and recommendations. Based on what you are saying, I came up with this picture of my roof: Please, could you help me with the following: For the rubber roof, what product would you actually use and what thickness. I am looking at EPDM Rubber Flat Roofing Supplies | Rubber4Roofs but I am not sure if I am looking at the right thing.... For the air barrier, could I use this product: Powerlon Air Barrier Membrane - 50m x 1.5m Roll | Roofing Superstore®? Or is there any better product you would recommend? Do I need anything between the plywood and the joists / air gap? I planned on having spotlights / downlights as I thought they would be best for the office / gym area. However, I understand that I should not break the air barrier.... Do you reckon that wall washers would be really better? Is there any specific product you would recommend?
  14. @Nickfromwales Is there any particular model that you liked and you think it would be a good fit for my outbuilding? I can still change the size of the bathroom as the partition wall is not there yet. I already have the drain in the raft foundation but I can still go with an external drain.
