  1. Hi all! Resurrecting an old discussion from another forum! I have decided to go with SIPs for my double garage build, the garage is 6mx8m, I have been quoted from a company based in Scotland the equivalent of £318/m2 This quotation includes delivery and supply of complete kit from ground level to roof, garage will have a room-in-the-roof by default. From an old 2013 thread I have compared against, this seems a good price, does anyone disagree? Roof Panels 194mm Wall Panels 144mm Thanks for your thoughts everyone
  2. Cheers for the link Cheers for the link
  3. Hi @ryder72 thanks for your feedback! Managed to contact mereway and a local company that works with them (mereway will only do trade) and see how that goes. Funny they are not up in search engine results for me, so I really didnt know them until now
  4. funny enough, I was told the exact same thing!
  5. Same thing, I got a kitchen for nearly the same price as quoted and I thought to myself, how can wardrobes be nearly as expensive as a kitchen with all the appliances included, only difference in my case is the angled doors!
  6. Thanks, would appreciate your pics! @jack have you had a Sharps quote before as well?
  7. Hi! I did look into Ikea....I think they are good but my wife insists on custom fit due to the wall angles, she wants a seamless finish Hi Peter, Their quote included the 50% off! And managed to get another 900 shaved off, but then again I never quoted before for wardrobes so I wasnt sure. Also, they will not finance if you are not a home owner, although technically I own the house, since its not completed and currently I live on a rental, he could not have done finance on my case, really stupid!
  8. Hi guys, First time I am quoting for a custom fitted wardrobes for my house. After seeing so many commercials on TV, yesterday I had a Sharps designer come visit the new property to take measurements and today he came with his drawings and idea for the walk-in-wardrobe. I have attached his drawings for you to see. Our wall height is near 2.6m and we have angled roof on both sides of the wardrobe room (dormer window in the middle) Since I have never quoted with anyone else yet as it seems there aren't many custom fit suppliers out there besides Neville Johnson, I have no idea what the price would be. His final price for the plans as attached was £6900. Has anyone ever used Sharps before and is the price fair based on the proposed idea? Thanks in advance for your comments sharps.pdf
  9. @Steptoe thanks for your feedback got more cards to play now!
  10. It would certainly help, I think moving the space over to the left and having the van in the garage / Landy in the parking space would make the entrance with better and clear access, we shall see
  11. Hello @Ferdinand, thank you for your very thorough input! A bit of history about the plot: number 14 was originally owned by an elderly couple (this is from conversations I have had with neighbours living there nearly two decades). Plots were then a huge nursery with glass houses, seems they loved gardening. When they passed away, family decided to sell the house and split, house was put on sale and eventually sold to van man (this bit is only assumed). Plot was sold to another party, two previous owners before me. Owner 1 (developer) tried to get permission to build 3 houses, was eventually refused by the council, sold plot to Owner 2, did not go ahead with development and then I managed to purchase off him. Previous planning applications all state that the parking space in question may need to be modified due to new access point. I decided to contact the Highway Authority in order to better get an idea on what that would entail, this was last May. Upon coming to site, the first thing he mentioned was exactly what you stated "curiously positioned"; and defined it as a "rogue" parking space, probably due to the orientation. Another funny thing I did not mention, parking marks match size of van . So to answer you, I m not really sure there was any agreement, again all parking on the street and all streets surrounding our area are not allocated spaces. Anyways, he contacted his superior (Traffic Engineer) and his reply was that the parking had no relevance there, and that it could be removed, either by me or contractor. I have reluctantly left this issue aside until now, so hence my OP, and as @joe90 said, this may be a storm in a teacup, and I will just go and have a chat. On the day of the site visit, he wasn't home, but a quick word with his then girlfriend (his daughters mum) regarding the issue, she said he was a very reasonable guy, so we will see how it goes!
  12. @PeterW Very interesting read indeed....lol, so basically, obstructing you from getting IN your driveway is not an offence...obstructing from getting OUT is? I will keep you all updated on this. I just want to create an opportunity/situation to come and speak with him. Thank you very much for everyones thoughts!
  13. @Steptoe I merely asked on how to approach him, thats all. I am not suggesting I want to kick the guy out, and considering what the highway authority has said, thats a "rogue" parking space so hence my request for some feedback! And the way you put it your wife's struggle with someone blocking her, that changes the angle I see it, and I would be pissed off too, but then I would not resort to blocking someone, thats just me, some people are different. Again, I am trying to find the best way to approach him, thats the point of the OP, to discuss the best outcome.... I have not decided anything by the way, the lines removed was a suggestion from the highway authority when asked about the new access point, as well as a planning note.
  14. At that angle it looks ok...but you have to maneuver around the van when its there Another angle:
  15. I dont think he owned the plot when it was divided. I believe it was split off, plot was sold to someone else. This is a view in 2009: This is 2013:
  16. Something I may have forgotten to say: He DOES have parking, to the left of his property he has his land rover parked in there!! So it is not like he does not have any other space. Also, his van is probably owned by the company he works for. To the right of his property there is not enough room, his property is about 1m or so away from my fence (which I am replacing for free!) @Steptoe it seems you like to cause trouble! I would never park my car close to someone so they couldn't get out, or block with my wife's car! And my first post was, I am looking to hear what everyones thoughts is, I am not simply removing the guys parking, I want to talk to him first! And how can it be HIS parking? Its on the street
  17. @JSHarris Yes, the plot was part of number 14, it was a huge garden plot owned by a previous couple that has passed away, so yes, it used to belong to number 14!
  18. Not really! I am having a garage built near the boundary, wouldnt be enough space
  19. highway authority said "delete" it
  20. Hello everyone, thanks for all your thoughts. I wish I had enough likes to give out. It seems I will have to man up and try to have some sort of sitting down and chat with him. One thing that I thought about it, his front facade is really an eye sore: old roof, old paint work, his front wall brickwork damaged…. Don’t want to pretend to be a good Samaritan, but maybe offering some improvs this would give me some leverage if I feel he becomes too negative with the issue? Thanks again
  21. Hi everyone, looking for your thoughts on this. As you can see from the attached location plan, access to my plot consists of an entrance 6m wide between number 12 and 14. Since we acquired planning permission, one of the things stated by the case officer was the new required access point: "The formal on street parking space on Street Name may need to be modified to accommodate the proposed access, and allow service vehicles access." Speaking with the highway authority last year on a site visit they stated that parking in front of number 14 would need to be “deleted”, since the way it is oriented obstructs the entrance to the new access. A funny thing they mentioned too was, well the parking lines were not supposed to be lined up the way they are they should have been following the property front wall, so it seems it was either painted the wrong way or it was done on purpose… Since we bought this plot we went out of our way to make sure everyone was (and is) happy with our plans, and I have managed to speak and make friends with everyone EXCEPT for the guy that lives on number 14. He works 6 days a week so I never really had a chance to introduce myself; and he has always parked his big van (he works for one of those glass companies) on that parking space. There are no allocated spaces on the street, you are free to park anywhere. A few months ago, speaking with neighbour that lives on number 12, and trying to get a feeling of what "Mr 14" was like, he said that once they had an argument regarding one of his old land rover cars parked on the street, and since that argument they don’t speak to each other anymore. The other neighbour to his left (number 16) has told me that he keeps to himself and don’t like to talk much with other people. Nothing bad about him really, just that he probably does not socialize with his neighbourhood I guess. So yesterday at around 7:30am we started assembly of our timber frame house and I quickly managed to have a word with him to see if he could move his van to give way for the lorries to unload. I knocked on his door, shook his hand and introduced myself, asked him if he could please move his van, he said no problem. I had the feeling he’s the kind of guy that does not want to talk much, in a “bully” kind of way, but I could be wrong. Anyways, I tried my best to have a conversation, stating I was getting all the fencing replaced all for free, brand new concrete posts and boards, he said he would open one of the gates for the guys to access his backyard and off he went to work. He came back at around 17:30pm, the assembly crew had their vehicles where he always parks his van (the parking space in question), I kindly told him that we would move it as soon as the lorries were done, so he could park his van then. He said no problem and went inside his house, a bit annoying as I wanted to chat with him.... So guys, I would love your thoughts on this : Im not really sure if he knows that in order to have a proper access to our entrance that parking space has to go, Im not even sure if he read the planning decision stating so. How would I approach him in a friendly way to speak about this, as he seems to have taken that parking space as his allocated space (well thats what I think I may be wrong)? The highway authority guy himself told me that parking space has no relevance there: I have collaborated the information gathered on site and have put in a request to my Traffic Engineer to address this rogue parking space and consider the option of having it (re)moved. Buy yourself a can of black road paint and mask over it, or we can burn it off properly through our contractors but this will take time and will incur a cost to yourself. Its paramount that you speak with your neighbours on this point to smooth it over but there is no allocation to this space and it will be blocking the access when the new build begins. Il leave it to you and hopefully I won’t need to step in but you have my permission to paint this over. So I am just trying to find the most positive way to go about this without causing him to feel I am the new kid on the block and came to take over his space! Perhaps I am a bit paranoid, but I just want to make sure I approach him the right way, Im sure some of you have come upon a grumpy neighbour before! Who knows, maybe he will be just fine, but I think I will take the first step and speak but I just want to make sure I do it properly. Thank you so much and I would love your feedback again!!!!
  22. Thanks guys for the feedback! Sorry as I could not reply, frame assembly happening this week!
  23. too bad!!! Thanks for the quick reply guys!
  24. Hi guys, Am I allowed to ask a skip hire company to zero rate a skip on a new build? I was trying to find this answer on the net but didn't come across any info. Thank you all
