Hi. I’m desperately trying to find where I can find kitchen fronts like the ones in this image. They look like the frame stands out from the fronts. Anyone any ideas without having to get this made bespoke? Or even know what they’re called?? thanks
-
Looks like they are timber windows not Aluclad, is that right?
-
Also getting quotes from them but they are working out nearly double the quote of Nordvest! They are lovely windows though. Nordvest do also now have an installer who works nationally who we have had an install quote from
-
Thank you. Will check them out! Do you know if they install?
-
Hi all. Just wondering if anyone knows much about nordvest windows? We saw some corners at a show and I’ve searched the internet for reviews, but just wondered if anyone knew much about them and how they compare to the likes of Rationel, Velfac, norrsken etc

Exactly

The problem is the planning guidance. I agree it’s ridiculous but I have no doubt that if we added it with clear glass the neighbours would just complain in order to get us in trouble
-
By definition I wouldn’t be breaking the law. I would be doing it under PERMITTED development. Thank you for being so warm and supportive.

Not at all

This is very similar to what we want. Neighbours would not be happy though!

It’s the neighbours that will definitely kick off unfortunately. They made every complaint possible during planning!

Hi all. Some advice needed. We currently have PP for a new dwelling in our garden. Currently we have a pitched roof which creates a vaulted space above the room below. The architect specified solar panels on that roof, but since talking to the renewables company, it seems as though there isn't much point given the amount it would produce vs cost. That means we would like to add a rooflight instead. It is on a pitched roof (39 degrees) and would be about 2.5-3m above ground level. It is on the side of the house and so would face our neighbours garden. Planning have said this would not be considered a NMA and we would need to go back to planning. I really want to avoid this for a variety of reasons, so am looking at fitting it retrospectively once all signed off. Most of the info I have found says they can be only fitted on a side-facing roof slope with obscure glazing. This seems crazy given it's in a ceiling. Does anyone have any experience of whether this is the case, when it's in a vaulted ceiling? thanks

I had been looking at factory sprayed stuff. Do you think buying it and coating on site is adequate? I seem to get varying info when I search

That’s good to hear! I think I’m just overthinking it to be honest. I want to make sure we’ve considered all options and I just worry that the ‘old looking’ brick we were thinking of may look a bit forced and maybe we should just embrace the modern look entirely
-
Just looked that up. Looks good! You reckon all black for the wood then or keep the natural as well? Any ideas on coatings for natural. Love sioo:x light grey but it’s ££££!

Hi all. We now have planning for a new build TF house, but still need to submit our materials to LPA. on the original design from the architect we wanted reclaim brick with vertical timber cladding as attached, but. I am now beginning to think it could end up looking a bit crap and maybe best to just embrace the modern. As we are not using the architect now we are past the planning stage, we can’t ask them to show us different designs with CAD. does anyone have any bright ideas about external materials that may work well in this design? and does anyone know of any good computer programme I could get that could help me mock ideas up myself? thanks
-
Hi there. We are supposed to be getting out BR drawing completed through our TF company and they are asking for the CAD files from our architect. The architect says there will be a 2k fee for releasing these which then makes the whole drawing package fairly expensive (but still not as expensive as staying with the architect!!). I have been in contact with an online company who would not require CAD files but I’m just not sure I’m comfortable with using a company like this. does anyone have any suggestions of architectural technicians we could approach to explore doing our drawings for us? Obviously, location in the UK doesn’t matter. also if anyone knows how common it is to need CAD files when using a different provider to do drawings, that would be useful. Thanks

That’s really really helpful. Thank you very much!

We have to state external materials (but driveway not stated). We also have to submit a surface and foul water drainage plan. If gravel were stated in this would it supersede the block paving states before?
-
Hi all. Just got planning for a new build in our garden with a driveway running down the side f of current house. The current driveway is gravel and already travels up the side of the current house to a garage to the rear. On the technical site plan that was submitted with planning it shows a permeable block paving driveway as we wanted to minimise noise to the current house. However, we would now like to ideally do gravel due to cost reasons. The block paving is not stated as a condition and there is no mention of it on the officers report. Does anyone know if we now have to do block paving as it was on our plans? Or can we use any permeable surface?

Hi there. Does anyone know how I can get full episodes of Building the Dream? Not on All4 anymore or on YouTube. Thanks

Timber frame allowing for close proximity to neighbours….
Bournbrook replied to G and J's topic in Timber Frame
At what distance from boundary/other properties does this apply? -
SIP wall thickness vs u value

Thanks for this. Yes have read that having a 142 with separate insulation is better than a 172. What are your wall thicknesses in total? -
SIP wall thickness vs u value

Is there a tool for running the numbers? I’ve found the Kingspan u value calculator but I can’t seem to see SIPs panels as an option
