I will be working at 4m so not that high but I can get this 7m one in the price of 5m scaffold tower. I think the wobble, sway is expected at 5-7 meters but this 7m type has bigger outriggers so it won't topple.
-
I found another one used for almost £500 but it's First 5 Presto Basic https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/first-5-presto-diy-aluminium-tower/ and the extension pack worth a grand in total but again this is a lightweight tower same as the previous. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/first-5-presto-diy-aluminium-tower-extension-p/ I think all these DIY aluminium ones are like that.
-
Maybe it isn't expensive as a process but the item price difference between raw steel and galvanised is 30% which is substantial.
-
ok, I buy raw steel ones and paint it with zinc
-
so how do you think can I go for raw steel and paint it or galvanised bases?
-
https://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk/scaffold-towers/diy-scaffold-towers/home-master-diy-scaffold-tower It says there the weight is 22kg, it's aluminium

I am commencing work on the pergola which is pretty much the same design as the patio just 3x3 meters between posts. I am looking into these heavy duty post bases I mentioned before. The prices have changed a bit. The one that uses 7mm steel is now over £40 each and it's 140mm not 150mm Someone already pointed out that this one regardless of the superior thickness has been galvanised cheaply. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08FQV9XYW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1R0D8B1EKTLOP&psc=1 The other one that is 5mm is in 3 flavours: raw steel, galvanised and stainless steel. £31, £42 and £62 respectively. I ordered one few months ago and stainless steel was for £42. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175719585849?var=475106267269 I have one of each and wonder if I should order 3 more of the 7mm or 3x 5mm ones. I lean towards 5mm option but not sure if I should go for galvanised for £42 or just buy raw steel and just cover it with Zinc galvanising paint I already have?

while on the scaffold I would have to leave the jetpack on idle in case of an emergency.

Master DIY and Premium 5m ones have a platform at 3m, working height is 4.7-5m and this is within the height I need.
-
right, I broke my back in the past and I am a bit hesitant to work from a platform that is not stable. This aluminium has certain advantages e.g. it's lightweight, does not rust but the whole scaffold is only 25kg. I am going to use it to remove the glass units from windows at about 4m so it's not like wall painting at a height. I am looking for some scaffold towers on Facebook Marketplace in the area but I don't see anything interesting apart from a bunch of scaffold hires and the guy selling these square steel scaffold towers for £285 but I need to get the boards on top of that and this also needs a ladder to climb it. Ideally I would want to climb one before I buy it.

I am looking into these aluminium 5m high scaffold towers and I cannot decide between Master DIY https://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk/scaffold-towers/diy-scaffold-towers/home-master-diy-scaffold-tower and Premium https://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk/scaffold-towers/diy-scaffold-towers/premium-diy-scaffold-towers There is about £80 difference in price. I reckon the difference is the Premium has this quick assembly with no tools needed. The area I have available I am not sure these square scaffold towers are practical but definitely more stable.

I topped it up as some pockets needed more gravel but currently there is stone over the grid. I agree that wacker would damage the plastic if in direct contact. Perhaps I could just slide the wacker plate over it with the engine off or use a big hammer to tap it from above. I think the idea is for the smaller stones to fill the voids so the crap from the nearby trees won't get there first. The work has commenced on the 11th of May - 3.5 months. It looks innocent but about 300 bags of topsoil and subsoil had to go. I am glad we built a proper soakway and got rid of that manhole cover. What you see is just a surplus council slab lying on the gravel.
-
Do you think I can run a wacker plate at low setting over the grid to compact the stone a bit?
-
I can get a galvanised steel tower for £285 or this aluminium (used but like new) one for £300. The tower has a much higher work height I think.
-
when it topples should I hold onto the window sill or aim for the nearby hedge? 😅

Hi All, I have to replace the glass units in my 1st floor windows and because it's the old school, the beads are outside. I have to get to the window from the outside. I think the ladder is to risky to work on, I think I buy this tower scaffolding. I have seen some scaffolding made of aluminium and also a scaffold on wheels. If I get the guys to do it it will cost me £600 to replace 4 units (or more!) while if I do it myself it will be £300 for the scaffolding + cost of the units + my time of course. What do you think?
-
I went for MKM as 4x bags of Cotswold chippings costs me half of what StoneWarehouse charges me :)
-
I have estimated I will need 2.7 tonnes but most likely will take 3 tonnes.
-
right, but does it have to be 10mm or 20mm is also good? I cannot find anything suitable as there is a lot less 10mm stuff available in bulk bags. I checked in the spec again and it says "EcoGrid stone infill (6-30mm sharp angular or slate)" so it will take any size it just have to be angular or slate but I reckon smaller is better
-
How about Cotswold chippings? I think it's ultimate white. It says good for driveways but it does not say what is the diameter. https://mkm.com/product/cotswold-chippings-bulk-bag-b003833 I also come across Hanson Limestone 10mm I reckon Golden Gravel 10mm, Pea Gravel/Pipe Bedding or Gravel/Shingle 10mm isn't good.
-
We actually capped the man hole with plinth as it is reinforced while council slabs are not. I have a question re stone infill for the grids. I have calculated how much I will need but the installation guide does not specify what stone infill exactly, it only says angular. Is White Angular Limestone, 10mm any good or should I look for a smaller stone e.g. 5mm? https://mkm.com/product/white-angular-limestone-10mm-850kg-bulk-bag-b020595 Is it better dark or white stone?

Construction in the front yard (front garden)
JohnBishop replied to JohnBishop's topic in Brick & Block
I saw that video of Colin Furze who built underground bunker and an escalator garage in his front yard and according to what he said he did this without a permission but got a permission afterwards. I think he must bribe his neighbours and the council that they didn't stop what he was doing. -

What if it was a castle but made of just 4 walls ~2sqm? Does something without a roof counts as an outbuilding?
