Gillo
Hello evereyone! Soon to be starting my sisters single storey extension... I'm a keen DIYer with a little bit of building knowledge having done a small amount of carpentry including timber frame in the past. Hoping to pick brains over a few details and probably more as i go along the journey! Cheers

Onoff
Greetings. So the extension, highly insulated timber frame, SIPs etc or traditional brick and block? Under floor heating? You'll get advice on all that and more here.
Gillo
Thanks newhome and Onoff! Im looking to make open timber frame panels out of 6x2, Lintels with 8x2 stood on edge, insulation inside along with services then batten off the panels exterior for render boards to go up. Thats the rough idea... still undecided with heating options, initially thought standard radiators but having floated the idea of underfloor heating (thanks Onoff) she seems quite keen, guess its price dependant as are the doors to the garden bifold vs double sliding doors?! Gillo
Whilst I'm thinking of it does anyone know of a table which would show the max spans for timber lintels? i.e 3 8x2's fixed together on edge how far could that span? i know its weight dependent on the roof as well but didn't know if there was a handy table out there? Just wondering how big an opening to the garden they could have? Cheers all!
