DRL's / Daylight running lights on vehicles in foggy conditions.

Featured Replies

Yes, I didn't read the manual.

Just an observation regarding DRL's on most newish vehicles.

Most of you might already know this but the rear lights are not on (illuminated) in Auto setting unless the wipers are operating for at least 30 seconds or in low light conditions which then switches on the low beam.

This was very apparent yesterday when driving in brightish fog where most newish vehicles ran on DRL's.

I gather this can be recoded on some vehicles using diagnostic tools.

Not wanting to sound like an old (expletive deleted), I gucking hate the new LED car lights.

The worse are the auto dipping ones, they don't always dip.

Over the last 5 years as 8 was going up country ever couple of weeks, I noticed the increase in lights that were not dipped when I approached. About 1 in 20 vehicles (I started counting as not a lot else to do when driving 600 miles in the dark).

They there are the cheap replace LED bulbs. They just scatter light in all directions, they seem very popular with van drivers.

I have a Mondeo, not a small car, and not particularly low, but parked Infront of me is one of those VWs pretending to be a Porsche, the (expletive deleted)ing headlights are higher than my head!

Don't get me started on people that park at night, facing the traffic with their headlights in. (expletive deleted) the lot of them.

Interesting, I've never given any thought about rear DRLs.

I did see a couple of people running with their rear fog lights on last night when there was no longer any fog. Absolutely blinding!

Was running an 2008, Astra until recently and the auto dipping on new cars on rural roads was horrendous, in the end I used full beam until they dipped.

Bit late to start worrying about that.

So are red lights on at the back if lights are on at the front? Why wouldn't they be?
