Barca99 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Hello All I have three questions related to the MCS 020 calculation for air sourced heat pump noise that I am hoping I can get some guidance on. The proposed installation: Heatpump on ground backing onto house wall and pointing at boundary fence approx 60 cm away. On the other side of the fence neighbour has a ground floor and first floor window. Both around 5 meters away. (1) Does the boundary fence count as a reflective surface (so Q=8)? (2) From the first floor window a large amount of the top surface of the pump will be visible over the fence. Does this count as ‘direct line of sight’ (so 0dB barrier correction)? (3) The fence is closed board type, boards taper from 12mm to 6mm thick. Overal fence thickness ranges from 9mm to 21 mm. Assuming this is a 'Type 2' barrier. Correct? I would get a full suvey done before an install but wanted guidance first. Thanks for any guidance. Dave.

What does the manufacturers installation guide say about the heat pump firing into a wall only 600mm away? Usually they want much more distance there; Stiebel Eltron want 2000mm for eg.
Barca99 Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago Hi Nick, According to this anything over 500 mm is OK (see dimension d).

I installed a 4 bar wooden fence in front of mine, about a metre in front, but the amount of defrosting that occured after installing made me remove the fence a week later, be careful with air being recycled.
