November 11, 2025Nov 11 Hi, I’m hoping to re-use the existing old T&G floorboards from my Small Mission Hall on top of new insulated RC floor slab. this is assuming I’ll be able to get most up in a reasonable condition. I don’t mind a bit of raggedy! 🤣 Wondering what then are the best options for fixing them down? Floor area is about 34m sq Have them laid as a floating floor? Use some form of self contact adhesive to fix direct to the concrete? Fix battens down first to the concrete and then fix the floorboards to the battens? Any other options/suggestions or recommendations?

November 12, 2025Nov 12 I doubt glue down will be good, so battens fixed to the floor with concrete screws. You could run cables in steel conduit if you need to. Floating floor could also work but you would need perimeter expansion allowance and tongue securely glued to groove.

It’s under 4.500mm wide overall once studs and insulation are fitted.

It is a bit tricky as traditionally t&g floorboards were nailed down and there was expansion available between each board, which could be 5mm. If they are glued together the 5mm no longer applies and has to be multiplied by the number of boards which would be too much over 4.5m. Maybe the battens min 45mm will be better.
