Stone to top of windows or bottom?

Hi our plans state stone to the window cills then timber clad above.. its a class q. We wondered if we should bring the stone higher so to enhance the weatherproofing around the windows opposed to timber.. then bring timber over the stone face at the gables. Do we think this is necessary? How much timber cladding is too much?

It may look good with stone up to the top of the windows and painted rendered blockwork above.  It will look less sheddy.

I would be inclined to run the cladding  above the cill height as the horizontal line would be very dominant.

Thank you James p. Many people have said this. And incorporating a slate cill would look very nice. Vertical cladding we are having.. but i wonder if we packed the cladding so it then came over the stone work… ?

From a practical point of view running the cladding proud would help keep water off the top of the stone work and clean edge.

Do a quick search, mostly forward of stone work. Lots of great examples.
