Hi,

We have some 90 degree bay windows in our house which we bought last year (in UK). We want to replace them with new uPVC windows.

I know this might look silly but my question is: How do you measure correctly bay windows? Is the correct way the "Option A" below, where you do not take into account the external corner part of the window:

Is the external corner taken into account for all windows, like in the "Option B" below?

Or is done in a different way, like measuring the main long window taking into account the external corners, then the smaller side windows are measured not taking into account the external corner, like in the "Option C" below?

If someone with experience can please let me know what is correct way, I will be able to avoid ordering the wrong windows.

Best regards and thanks in advance,

Alex

Thank you @JohnMo!

I would prefer to remove some intermediaries and work with a proper builder (which is who in the end does all the work), providing proper windows. And for that I need to order  them myself.

Ask the supplier. It's quite possible different suppliers have different measurements requirements and tolerances.

I agree on this. The supplier/manufacturers are generally pretty helpful.

Are the bays structural? Eg does one on the ground floor support another on the first floor and part of the roof? The windows will need to be designed for that if it's the case.

A decent carpenter will be able to measure up and can either order them for you and add a margin, or use that and order them yourself.

I'd avoid having a builder anywhere near anything that's got tight tolerances and glass.

You've got a few options by either going direct and doing it yourself, or getting the man fitting them to measure them.

Be mindful that you can save a penny and lose a pound.

Some tradesmen are happy to let you order them because it keeps them under the VAT threshold but the best prices are from trade suppliers. Its a toss up so pick whichever one you prefer.
