paro Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Maybe a stupid question but can I paint my engineering bricks? It will serve no other purpose than disguise the fact that I was to cheap to buy the blue ones and went for the orange only to now regret how much they are going to show up against the black cladding I am planing to install. I wasn't sure if engineering bricks would be an issue for regular masony paints. Thanks, Paul
Redbeard Posted July 29 Posted July 29 My first thought was 'yes, you can, but you can also paint jelly'. Slightly more context, yes the jelly would be less successful, but I always fight shy of building in a maintenance liability if I can. Can you reduce potential splash-up by, say, a small gravel-filled trench (even if not a proper French drain), take the cladding down to 150 above GL (The bottom plank may be 'sacrificial' as I would normally say 300) and just rely on the fact that you might not spend too much time lying on the ground looking at the orange bricks?!
Bonner Posted July 30 Posted July 30 I don’t think anyone can tell for certain however there are some good ‘all surface’ paints available (ex. Bedec, Zinsser).

paro Posted July 31 Author Posted July 31 Thanks All. I have gone down to about 150 and will add some gravel to try and releive the splash back. It never occured to me to actually try and paint the bricks though. I'll wait until the cladding is up and the landscaping done and decide how noticable it is really going to be. Just seemed like an easy win if they could take it with no downside.
Andehh Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Give them a good brush and gentle power wash to remove dust, then dry thoroughly!!!!
